What is Zeolite Molecular Sieve

Zeolite molecular sieves (synthetic zeolite) is a kind of silicon aluminate microporous crystals.
It is composed of silica and alumina tetrahedron basic skeleton structure, there is metal positive ion in the lattice (such as Na +, K +, Ca2 +, etc.), to balance the extra negative charge in the crystal. Molecular sieve type according to its crystal structure is mainly divided into: type A, X, Y, etc.

The chemical formula which best characterizes the zeolite crystal cell:


Chemical Formula:   Mx/n [ (AlO2)x (SiO2)y ]WH2O
Mx/n :   Positive ion,keep the crystal electrically neutral
(AlO2)x(SiO2)y :   With different shapes of holes in the structure of zeolite crystals
H2O :   physical adsorption of water molecules.

Adsorption: molecular sieve adsorption of matter from the physical adsorption (van der Waals force), the crystal inside the cavity has a strong polarity and coulomb field, the polar molecules (water) and unsaturated molecules exhibit strong adsorption ability.
Sieving: molecular sieve pore size distribution is very uniform, only the molecular
diameter smaller than the diameter of the cavity material made it into the zeolite crystal inside the cave.
